The Best Foods for Quick Energy

On a daily basis, most of us probably lack a little energy. The thing about having energy though, is that when you need it, you generally need it NOW. You might be rocking along fine, and then all of a sudden you’re completely wiped out. This is when you need that blast of energy just to finish the day. If you find yourself suddenly exhausted and need a bit of energy quickly, check out these foods that can give you a quick and helpful burst of energy.

Fruit

Grabbing a piece of fruit is kind of like a healthy way of grabbing a piece of candy. Fruit is a natural sugar, which can provide a quick boost in your energy level. For a double punch, choose fruits that are high in Vitamin C. Oranges, lemons, kiwi, and other citrus fruits provide natural sugar as well as a healthy dose of Vitamin C to get you the energy you need.

Nuts

Nuts are an excellent source of protein. A little bit of protein, especially lean protein, can give you energy quickly. Carry a bag of almonds, walnuts, cashews…whatever your preference. Then, when you are feeling a little down or need a little boost, pop a handful into your mouth. This is a great healthy way to add energy to your day without taking in too many calories.

Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is obviously made of nuts which helps for reasons similar to above. It also, however, can provide your body with a little bit of natural sugar and contains some carbohydrates that can give you energy now. Peanut butter has a way of giving you a bit of that I need it now energy to keep you moving. Eat it on crackers, with an apple, or grab a teaspoonful to get the benefits without eating too much and ruining your calorie count.

Juice

Drinking juice can give you the same benefit of fruit and Vitamin C in a really quick way. Carry a juice box or a water bottle full of the good stuff for the times when you’re feeling a little low. Make sure that you have 100% juice and not a sugary concoction. That way, you’ll be getting the benefit without the spike in sugar or the calories.
