3 Lesser Known Foods With a Big Healthy Impact

Chicken, fish, vegetables. These three foods are the most popular healthy foods on the market. When you begin a healthy diet, these generally take front and center. For most of us, healthy consists of some form of these at almost every meal. Maybe that is why so many of us give up and go back to our unhealthy ways. Instead of letting this happen to you, add something new to the mix. Check out these three lesser known foods that can add some diversity and pack a healthy punch.

Black Garlic

We all associate garlic with a strong smell, overpowering flavor, and a stark white appearance. What you may not have known is that garlic can be black! Technically, garlic turns black when it is fermented. When you eat black garlic, you get twice the benefits and significantly less of the flavor and smell. In many instances, the flavor and smell are so slight, they are virtually nonexistent. And yet, you’ll get double the antioxidants and antibiotic protection.

Baobab Fruit

The baobab fruit is found in Africa, but can be found in local world markets. The baobab is an excellent source of potassium, calcium, and magnesium, which means it helps with muscle cramps and bone health. It also contains really high levels of antioxidants for cell repair and protection and serves as a natural anti-inflammatory. Because this one is so exotic, it’ll take some research and trial and error to prepare, but lovers of the fruit claim that the benefits are definitely worth it.

This food is picking up steam in the United States and in the health food market in general. Quinoa is a super food that is packed with whole grains, protein, and numerous healthy nutrients. It is low calorie, and it can boost your metabolism to help you burn off more calories. It’s an excellent replacement for heavier sides like rice or potatoes. Give this one a try, as it’s delicious, healthy, and fairly easy to find in your local grocery store.

Eating a healthy diet is always a good idea, but without some new ideas to spice it up, it can get a little boring. If you’re willing, it doesn’t have to be! In fact, it can be really fun and exciting. Give any of these foods a try to add something new to your regular menu and to gain some healthy benefits at the same time.
